Fun Ways to Celebrate New Year's Eve at Home

1. Print a Program

Staying organized in a make-shift informal family gathering is still beneficial and cool. So we arranged a sequence of activities for the New Year’s Eve program, wrote some names, printed, and distributed it to the family members and visitors. It was a good party add-on and a photo prop. So here’s a sample of our simple printed program.

2. Sing Praise Songs

No need really to search YouTube for Christian karaoke songs, although it’s also a good start. We just sang some good old short choruses and hymns and involved everyone to bring it all out! It’s one of the many ways to celebrate how God has blessed us throughout the year.

3. Pick-A-Note

So we collected different questions from different sources on the internet, and made a list, printed it, rolled it out, and asked everyone to randomly pick one and give a short reaction. It was so fun we had a good laugh and reflections. Here’s our list of the questions we collected.

1. What’s the single biggest time-waster in your life, and how can you redeem the time?
2. What one thing do you most regret about last year, and what will you do about it this year?
3. What’s the most important way, by God’s grace, you will try to make this year different from last?
4. What one thing could you do to improve your prayer life this year?
5. What single thing can you plan to do this year that will matter most in ten years? In eternity?
6. What’s one thing you can do this year to increase your enjoyment of God?
7. What’s the most important thing you could do to improve your family life?
8. What is the biggest thing I have seen Jesus do in my personal life this year?
9. What do my resources (time, talent, finances, attitude, thoughts, passions) say about my focus and priorities this past year?
10. What is the most helpful new way you could strengthen your church?
11. In what area of your life do you most need growth, and what will you do about it this year?
12. What one biblical lesson or teaching do you most want to understand better this year, and what will you do about it?
13. In which spiritual discipline do you most want to make progress this year, and what will you do about it?

4. Prayer Time

Prayer is always the most essential part of worship, especially when it's the new year. So we asked our father to lead the prayer session. We thanked the Lord for His goodness throughout the year, although with Covid, His blessings are never ending. He sustained our families both here and in the Philippines.

5. Time Capsules

The idea of Time Capsule is cool. You write something on a piece of paper, and keep it safe and secure for the next 365 days, and finally open it by the end of the year. To see whether the things you wrote were fulfilled by God’s grace is a thing worth waiting and praying for. Here’s the source of the Time Capsule you can download or print.

6. New Year Bingo!

It was a fun activity to share with family. We enjoyed this so much. You can print one of your own here.

7. Minute To Win It

In one minute, everyone started to write the names of fruits. The second round, everyone wrote names of vegetables. This continued with other categories too, like animals, jobs - it was all fun, a little bit of pressure too! The one with the most number of names won.

8. Family Picture

We set-up a simple wall decoration for the photoshoot. So before everyone went to the food table to eat, the family picture summarizes everything - the laughter, the memories, the relationship, all frozen in time, in that family picture.

And for our families in the Philippines, a simple Photoshop solves the problem.
