Interview With The Kumander
Can’t picture out myself if what I've been doing now happened years before, where one slapdash might endanger anyone’s life – talking to the 21st world’s most wanted criminal during his time.
This man
This man, who used to be the troop, field, company and you-name-it-all commander of rebels, is now under the banner of one true prince of peace – Jesus.
Pastor Wahab Ampatuan Gumanding Jr. shared his personal testimony last December 28, 2013 at Talisayan SDA Church. Now, he’s dedicated to share the good news of salvation anywhere in the country but to his hometown, Brgy. Long Liguasan Marsh, Kabuntalan, Dinaig, Maguindanao.
Consequently, it is not seemly to talk to him today, got him interviewed and his approval to this article.
The Calling of the Kumander
Kuya Jun started to be high-ranking rebel on 1984 as he became the troop commander 813 3rd Mobile MNLF* and on 1993 as he led the pirates in Zamboanga Del Sur. On 1997, he stood as field commander ASG of Ipil Massacre and the following year on the 73rd 101st brigade NPA at Brgy. Pinaranda.
On 1999, he ranked as the troop commander of the known Kuratong Baleleng at Brgy. Gandiangan, Imelda of the same province. And for 7 years since 2000, he was assigned as the company commander of the 6th unit base of MNLF at Parang, Maguindanao.
But you can never tell for “the wind blows wherever it pleases. You hear its sound, but you cannot tell where it comes from or where it is going. So it is with everyone born of the Spirit." (John 3:8)
His life turned upside down. And this feared man, through the working of the Holy Spirit, joined the rank of the Seventh-day Adventist Church and was baptized on Sept. 15, 2007 at Valencia City, Bukidnon.
Later in life for 3 successive years since 2009, he top notched on Personal Evangelism, Public Evangelism, and Field School.
Wow! This one person, who used to lead others to kill, was now a dedicated Christian to lead people to Christ. A new person never to grovel again in mountains, never again to waylay. A new person that won't detain the truth he received. Once fully armed with guns, now equipped with the Holy writ.
I choose not to give details to his conversion for now, not to appear listless, but to let others contemplate onto the sumptuous work of the Spirit. I may not get the chance for now to see him work in his place, but I know he would be the cynosure of all eyes there.
